How do you get on the Worldwide Racquetball Day map for September 7 (and 8), 2024?  Simple! Create an event where you get racquetball players together. Then tell Jonathan Greenberg at USA Racquetball a few details (director, location, indoor/outdoor, club, dates, how to enter, etc.). That’s all it takes. Contact Cindy Tilbury (cindy.tilbury@att.net) or Jonathan Greenberg (jonathan@usaracquetball.com) if you need a little help getting started. We’ve got you! Check out the array of tools we created to help you out, including the MAP! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1HnMsUQX0v_YCStwr5A6luXOB9WBIK9E8

Currently, there are about 15 locations across the world scheduled to participate in Worldwide Racquetball Day 2024 and, based on 2023’s inaugural Worldwide Racquetball Day, we expect many more. The intent is to create many opportunities for racquetball enthusiasts to gather and play lots of games on September 7th, keeping in mind that thousands of players across the world are joining you at their own events. Of course, we hope you will take photos and livestream, and send the photos to USA Racquetball to highlight your event afterward. Looking for a fun place to travel September 7th weekend?  Check the map and pick a location.

In an exciting fusion of sport and culture, the Bolivian American racquetball community in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area launched the inaugural Bolivian Open in 2023, this unique tournament not only highlighted the skills of athletes but also showcased the rich cultural heritage of Bolivia, particularly as a celebration of Bolivian Independence Day on August 6th. The idea was initiated by Ariel Garcia along with Paola Nuñez and Carlos Calderon with the support of many local players including Mike, Karen, Frank, Lee, Graham, TJ and many more involved and title sponsored by Andy Gomer of Age Solutions.
With over 31,000 individuals of Bolivian descent residing in the DMV, primarily in Northern Virginia, the community is known for its vibrant representation of Bolivian dances and traditions through various parades and cultural events. However, the outdoor racquetball enthusiasts at Stratton Woods Park in Herndon, VA, sought to introduce an even broader scope of Bolivian culture beyond just the sport itself where they found an opportunity to intertwine sports, culture, and cuisine all into one weekend.
The Bolivian Open 2023 featured thrilling competitions in outdoor 1-wall and 3-wall racquetball, paddleball, and handball. Participants and spectators alike immersed themselves in Bolivian traditions, experiencing the vibrant pulse of the country while cheering on top athletes, including Bolivian pros Roland Keller, Carlos Keller, Kadim Carrasco, top 5 female players in the world Brenda Laime, and world #1 male racquetball player Conrrado Moscoso. The event drew a full roster of players and attracted significant attention from local, national, and international media, including coverage by Washington Hispanic Newspapers and Telemundo 44, which aired segments back in Bolivia.
The success of the tournament did not go unnoticed; the Embassy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia in Washington, DC, recognized the efforts of the professional athletes, Tournament Director Ariel Garcia, and Title Sponsor Andy Gomer of AGE Solutions, LLC, for their commitment to showcasing Bolivia's vibrant culture and athletic prowess.
Looking ahead, the local players of Stratton Woods Park are already preparing for the Bolivian Open 2024, set to take place from September 5th through 8th, 2024. Their mission remains clear: to create a memorable and inclusive tournament atmosphere that fosters camaraderie among participants in racquetball, paddleball, and handball. The team aims to ensure that everyone involved has an unforgettable experience that highlights Bolivia's rich cultural legacy.
As the United States continues to celebrate its diversity, the USA Racquetball committee proudly supports initiatives like the Bolivian Open. We wish the organizers of Stratton Woods Park great success in their upcoming tournament and encourage everyone to check out their official page for more information.
