Capital City WOR Championships Recap!

Carrie and I would like to thank all the participants who played last weekend in the Capital City WOR Championships, the locals who represented and players who chose our event to travel to for the weekend. We appreciate you! Thank you to our sponsors AGE Solutions, Splatr Racquetball for our amazing shirts and HEAD PENN for the best balls! We are thankful for your support year after year!
I will highlight a few of the divisions but check out the website for all of the winners! Shout out to Maddie Melendez for always keeping the small ball paddle division running on time and smooth. This is a division we offer to bring racquetball players into the small ball paddleball world, it’s always great competition. Leland Rupp and Troy Moore had a fantastic run and took 3rd place. Newbies from Arizona Tom Gerhardt and Tommy Medina picked it up quickly and placed 2nd to the OG Andy Gomer and Suresh Vemulapalli our champions!
Our largest division is always longwall 75+, our top 4 teams coming out of the pools were Dylan Pruitt/Tommy Medina, Allen Small/Sergio Rivera Shimoida, Sebastian Franco/Marcos Gravier and MoMo Zelada/Suresh Vemulapalli. Momo and Suresh winning with a huge comeback in the final over Sebastian and Marcos!
Men’s pro longwall was won for the 3rd year in a row by Momo Zelada and Sergio Rivera Shimoida in and incredible final match with Dylan Pruitt and Thomas Gerhardt.
Another big division is longwall elite doubles which had some tie-breakers in the early rounds but seeding played out with the Detroit strong #1 and #2 seed of Cyrus Chinoy/Cheven L. Kimbrough and Brandon Twopoint-o/Kelvin Hatcher Jr in the final. An epic 15-14, 14-15, 11-10 match landed on Cyrus and Chevy being the champs!
Tonya Rose and Brandon Foster took 1st place in mixed elite longwall going undefeated in that division.
Mixed onewall open/elite came down to a hard fought final of locals Ariel Garcia/Claudia Nuñez and Tj Baumbaugh/Aleti Ashok Reddy. It was a great match by both teams in some intense heat with TJ and Ashok taking 1st place.
Thank you to Maddie and Karen for being so helpful and all our racquetball family who just showed up to watch and support, we appreciate you! Next year we will be back to our usual date, it will be our 10th year anniversary and it will be awesome!
