USA Racquetball invites interested individuals to review the following posting that describes the responsibilities, qualifications, and selection process for the volunteer position of National Rules Commissioner. This position, one that is highly respected in the sport, will thrive under the right person who brings leadership experience and a passion for racquetball and its rules.

  • Outstanding referee capabilities, i.e., able to communicate calls and rules effectively and correctly in a match setting and to train/coach others accordingly as opportunities arise
  • If not already a USA Racquetball certified referee, the selected individual agrees to complete the program within the first 3-6 months in position.

Search and Interview Process

At the request of the President of the Board of Directors, the National Rules Commissioner search and interview process will be administrated by a panel that includes Board members, non-Board members, and athlete representatives.

  • Open for submissions through Friday, April 18, 2025 (see below)
  • Schedule Zoom interviews with qualified applicants
  • Interviewer panel to deliberate and deliver recommendation of top candidate to the President and Board of Directors for approval
  • Announcement of new National Rules Commissioner

How to Apply

  1. Interested individuals, please submit your statement of interest (200 words or less) to Cheryl Kirk at cherylkkirk@aol.com 
  2. The statement of interest should be themed “Why I wish to serve as USA Racquetball’s National Rules Commissioner”.
  3. Additionally, along with the statement of interest, you are invited to include up to five bullet points describing the skills and experience you possess that you feel would contribute to your qualifications as USA Racquetball’s National Rules Commissioner.
  4. SafeSport training and a background check will be required of the individual who is selected for the position.

National Rules Commissioner – Additional Information


USA Racquetball’s Bylaws, Article VIII, 806.0.B.1, describes the role:

                      B. National Rules Commissioner

1. The Corporation shall have a National Rules Commissioner who shall be appointed by the President, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.

2.  He/she shall serve a term of three years and may be appointed to successive terms.

3.  The duties of the National Rules Commissioner shall be to take necessary steps to identify persons qualified to serve as referees in racquetball competitions who are familiar with the published rules relating to racquetball play, racquetball contests, and tournaments; and further to designate the referees to act in that capacity during racquetball contests and tournaments. The National Rules Commissioner will chair the National Rules Committee. He/she shall take necessary steps to explain, interpret, and revise the written rules of racquetball. All such explanations, interpretations, and revisions are to be submitted by the National Rules Committee to the Board of Directors for approval. Approval of any rule revision or interpretation will require a two-thirds majority vote of the Board of Directors. Detailed rule change procedures are included in the USAR Governance Manual.
